Nuevo Ford Shelby GT 500 2013. El fabricante americano presenta la variante más capaz del mítico “muscle car” americano en un intento de plantar cara al Camaro ZL1 de Chevrolet. Se fabricará en Michigan y todavía es pronto para saber su precio.

En esta ocasión, Ford ha equipado al GT 500 con una versión mejorada del motor V8 de 5.8 litros de desplazamiento, capaz de generar una potencia máxima de 650 CV y alcanzar los 800 Nm de par. Con este renovado propulsor el Ford Shelby GT 500 2013 superará los 320 km/h.

El grupo motor elaborado en aluminio recibe un nuevo compresor más capaz, árbol de levas, un eje de transmisión fabricado en fibra de carbono y un embrague de doble disco mejorado. Además, el sistema de refrigeración ha sido mejorado con la inclusión de un ventilador más grande y la llegada de un Intercooler más capaz.

La carrocería del GT 500 acoge una serie de nuevos aditamentos aerodinámicos que ayudan a un mejor comportamiento del coche a altas velocidades y a refrigerar mejor el poderoso motor y el sistema de frenado. La carga aerodinámica ha aumentado un 33% en comparación con la del modelo saliente.

Como opción es posible montar un paquete de mejoras que incluye un juego de amortiguadores ajustables Blistein y un diferencial de deslizamiento limitado Torsen.

El cambio manual de seis relaciones ha sido optimizado para soportar mejor el incremento de potencia, igual que el sistema de frenado firmado por Brembo dotado de nuevas pastillas más poderosas.

El nuevo Ford Shelby GT 500 2013 ira equipado con el sistema Launch Control y el Advance Trac, un sistema que mediante el ajuste de ciertos parámetros del vehículo permite al cliente seleccionar el modo de conducción y limitar el trabajo del control de tracción y estabilidad.

Shelby GT500 Super Snake con 800 CV

Shelby, el preparador de Ford por excelencia, acaba de anunciar sus planes para presentar la última versión del kit GT500 Super Snake para el Mustang en el próximo Salón Internacional del Automóvil de Nueva York. El nuevo paquete de mejoras integrado en el modelo 2012 permitirá extraer 800 CV del renovado propulsor V8 de 5,4 litros.

El primer GT500 Super Snake de 2008 entregaba 605 CV con opción a 725 mediante la instalación de piezas Ford Racing (sin pérdida de garantía). En 2010 apareció una evolución que ya alcanzaba los 750 CV y ahora será presentada la de 800 CV proporcionados por el mismo V8 de 5.400 cc sobrealimentado mediante un compresor volumétrico, el propulsor es básicamente el mismo en cuanto a diseño, si bien la sustitución del hierro por aluminio en su construcción le ha hecho perder unos kilos.

Los futuros compradores tendrán a su disposición otras novedades para personalizar aún más su Mustang, tales como un nuevo juego de llantas de aleación de 20 pulgadas calzadas con neumáticos deportivos, ajustes en la suspensión, sistema de escape Borla, un kit para carrocería y un nuevo sistema de frenado firmado por Baer que incluye pinzas de 6 pistones para las ruedas del eje trasero.

Al igual que sucediera con los modelos anteriores, Shelby planea producir un número limitado de Super Snakes para garantizar la exclusividad del producto. Tendremos más detalles y fotos en la presentación del coche en Nueva York este mismo mes.

Shelby presenta en Chicago la nueva edición limitada 2012 del GT350

Shelby acaba de presentar en el Salón del Automóvil de Chicago la edición limitada 2012 de su modelo GT350. Los asistentes pudieron ver al deportivo decorado en dos nuevos colores muy llamativos y, por primera vez desde 1970, en versión convertible.

Basado en el Ford Mustang GT, el Shelby GT350 está disponible con tres posibles motorizaciones, incluyendo una versión básica con un V8 de aspiración normal y 435 CV de potencia asociado a una caja de cambios bien manual o automática, y dos variantes más dinámicas y poderosas que gracias a la intervención de un turbocompresor son capaces de entregar 530 y 630 CV.

Las combinaciones de colores disponibles para la nueva edición limitada 2012 del Shelby GT350 son: el tradicional blanco con la raya transversal en azul Le Mans, el “rojo carrera” con la raya transversal en blanco Le Mans, y el azul “Le Mans Kona” con la raya en blanco. Además, el equipamiento se mejora con un kit deportivo de serie, con llantas deportivas Cragar, frenos más grandes y una suspensión más deportiva. El convertible cuenta con una luz de freno LED situada en la barra antivuelco.

Carroll Shelby, fundador de Shelby American dijo durante la presentación de los deportivos “El año pasado, devolvimos a la vida al GT350 45 años después de su lanzamiento”. “Los coches se ven y suenan como los que hemos construido en 1965. Estamos repitiendo la historia, ahora ofrecemos dos colores adicionales y la novedad de una versión convertible en su segundo año de producción. ”

Los precios, que por su puesto no incluyen el Ford Mustang sobre el que se realiza la preparación, arrancan en los 26.995 dólares (19.700 euros) para la versión más básica y llegan a los 33.995 dólares (24.800 euros) para las versiones sobrealimentadas. La compañía tiene previsto preparar un máximo de 350 unidades.

1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Trans-Am a la venta

1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Trans-Am a la venta en eBay Motors. Unidad mítica creada por Ford durante la década de los 60 destinada a participar en las competiciones automovilísticas más apasionantes del momento donde consiguió una meritoria segunda plaza en el campeonato interestatal así como terminar cuarto en el circuito de Laguna Seca.

Si nos centramos en la historia de esta máquina hay que atender a la iniciativa de Ford Racing por controlar la categoría con lo que decidieron construir 10 unidades del Mustang Fastback Boss 302 para diferentes equipos, entre los que hay que mencionar a Shelby Racing.

Antes de entregar los coches estos fueron enviados a Kar Kraft, una empresa de ingeniería de competición que se encargaba de reforzar todos los coches al máximo para aguantar las inclemencias propias de la competición como la instalación de todos los refuerzos necesarios, jaula antivuelco, carrocería aligerada o puesta a punto del tren de rodaje.

Gracias a todo este trabajo estamos ante un modelo en el que destacan elementos propios de competición como la boca del depósito de repostaje rápido, frenos delanteros de cuatro pistones sacados de un Lincoln mientras que los traseros eran los habituales delanteros de un Mustang básico, suspensión muy dura y neumáticos diseñados en exclusiva por Goodyear y Firestone.

Tras realizar todas estas instalaciones los coches se trasladaban desde las instalaciones de Kar Kraft a las de Shelby donde se montaban los motores Boss 302 V8, nada menos que un motor de 5 litros atmosférico capaz de entregar una potencia final de 527 caballos y 570 Nm de par máximo.

Shelby Cobra del equipo oficial a la venta, se trata del Shelby Cobra con número de chasis CSX2557 que en su momento fue fabricado para correr en el U.S. Road Racing Championship

Para aumentar aún más el valor de estos coches, decir que tan sólo se fabricaron 6 coches idénticos a este de un total de 42 unidades de carreras. Debido a esto RM Auctions ha decidido sacar esta unidad a subasta y sacarse una buena tajada con la que afrontar mejor la crisis.

Sobre el modelo, destacar que fue restaurado completamente a mediados de los 90 para que su motor de 4.7 litros rinda más de 300 caballos. Si estás interesado en adquirir esta unidad, decirte que saldrá a subasta el próximo 13 de marzo y, como estarás pensando seguro que alcanzará un precio superior al millón de euros.

Ayer, seguro que te pasó igual que a mi, te quedaste con un sabor de boca agridulce tras ver el nuevo Shelby Mustang GT500, modelo que sorprendió por su agresividad así como por su potencia pero del que no pudimos oir su impresionante V8.

Pues hoy se va a solucionar todo este dilema ya que el dilema del sonido que emiten sus ocho émbolos luchando por desplazarse lo más rápido posible por sus innovadoras camisas de acero va a ser desvelado a continuación

Mucho ha tardado Shelby en presentar su siempre espectacular Mustang GT500, modelo que como sabrás es la respuesta que nos ofrece Carroll Shelby y su equipo de ingenieros ante una nueva gama de Ford Mustang

Sobre esta versión actualizada de Mustang GT500 quizás lo más destacable no sea su potencia, 550 caballos, ya que como recordarás el anterior Shelby GT500 rendía 10 caballos menos, sino la forma de extraerlos ya que el motor V8 de 5.4 litros ha sido renovado por completo.

Por ejemplo, una de las mejoras más importantes es el ahorro de peso que trae consigo este nuevo motor, que a comparación del anterior este está construido en aluminio, lo que hace que sea 46 kg más ligero que anterior V8 de hierro fundido

Entre las nuevas opciones, destacar la posibilidad de configurar este nuevo Shelby Mustang GT500 2011 con un techo panorámico acristalado que sin duda mejorará la perspectiva en el habitáculo de este modelo.

Para finalizar, destacar la posibilidad de adquirir este modelo con un paquete opcional de alto rendimiento creado por SVT en el que se incluirá un control de estabilidad AdvanceTrac mejorado así como unas exclisivas llantas de aluminio de 19 pulgadas.

Shelby presenta el nuevo Mustang GT350

Coincidiendo con el 45 aniversario de la llegada al mercado del primer GT350 de Shelby han aprovechado para la presentación de su último Ford Mustang preparado con dicho nombre que llegará al mercado a un precio de 33.950 euros que al cambio son 23.400 euros.

Tras conocer el precio, espero no os hayáis puesto muy nerviosos ya que este precio es el que debemos de pagar a Shelby con la salvedad de que el coche no está incluido, con lo que tendremos que comprar el Mustang y llevarlo a las instalaciones Shelby para que eleven la potencia de su motor hasta los 500 caballos.

Sobre el precio, sumando rápidamente este GT350 de Shelby costará más que un Mustang GT500 de fábrica, los dos con similar potencia pero distintas estéticas, este apartado muy a favor del GT350.

Shelby podría resucitar el GT350

En los últimos días se han acrecentado los rumores de que Shelby podría anunciar la llegada de un nuevo Sheby GT350. Según pasan las horas van conociéndose más detalles de este supuesto anuncio, hasta tal punto que ya se especula hasta con el día y la hora a la que se producirá.

Leftlane confirma que Shelby Automotive anunciará este nuevo GT350 esta misma semana, en una gala que servirá para otras dos cosas. Inaugurará el comienzo del evento anual de Barrett-Jackson y además conmemorará el 45 aniversario de la aparición del primer Shelby GT350.

Es por esta última razón por la que tanto se rumorea con la llegada de un nuevo GT350, más aún cuando la propia compañía ha dicho que anunciará en esa gala algo importante. Si es cierto, en las próximas horas saldremos de dudas.

El aspecto que tendría este nuevo GT350 sería lógicamente rememoratorio del original de los años 60. Sin embargo, el motor sería de lo más moderno de la casa puesto que se espera que monte una variante del reciente 5.0 V8 anunciado para el Mustang GT.

Shelby estudia la viabilidad de un Mustang con 1.000 caballos

Increíble noticia la que está recorriendo toda la blogosfera por la cuál, al parecer, Carrol Shelby estaría pensando en crear una edición limitada a 50 unidades del Ford Mustang con la salvedad de tener una potencia de 1.000 caballos.

Sobre este modelo, todavía no se sabe gran cosa salvo que en el la casa Shelby tienen planeado la instalación de un doble turbo para conseguir semejante cifra.

Pero como siempre, no todo es potencia con lo que tendrán que hacer irremediables reformas por toda la estructura empezando por suspensiones, frenos e incluso sobre el chasis, ya que no creo que un Mustang tenga un chasis lo suficientemente desarrollado para aguantar tanto empuje.

Ford muestra su monstruo para la NASCAR

La foto que veis en la cabecera de la imagen no es otra que el modelo presentado por Ford para correr el famoso campeonato americano NASCAR. Este modelo está basado en la actual generación del Ford Mustang.

La verdad, que cuando hace unos meses todas las marcas americanas dieron la noticia de que querían poner sus pony cars en la parrilla de salida de la NASCAR, al menos yo me emocioné pensando en esos maravillosos prototipos y la verdad, viendo lo que nos presentan la verdad que nos han salido “feos”

La verdad que esto se veía venir ya que, como suele ser normal en este campeonato, los coches que en él corren, estarán basados en coches de calle pero la verdad que no se parecen ni por asomo a estos, así que tendremos que conformarnos y ver como desarrollan la actividad para la que han sido creados

Kit Super Snake para el Shelby GT500

Ford introdujo un restyling del Mustang a finales de 2008. El 1 de Enero de este mismo año presentó oficialmente el Shelby GT500, la versión más prestacional del mítico pony car americano. Ahora, Shelby Autos ofrece para esta nueva generación el paquete Super Snake, ya conocido por estar presente desde 2007 en el modelo. Consiste en una serie de cambios estéticos y mecánicos, permitiendo exprimir hasta 725 CV del motor 5.4 V8.

Los cambios mecánicos son los más importantes puesto que incluye cambios en los amortiguadores, las suspensiones y las barras estabilizadoras, además de un nuevo compresor y escapes Borla. Los cambios estéticos más importantes son la presencia de unas nuevas llantas de 20 pulgadas, un pomo de cambio con recorridos más cortos y la sustitución del techo por uno de fibra de vidrio.

Se puede elegir una potencia de 630 CV o 725 CV, y en ambos casos el vehículo será inscrito en el Shelby Registry. El precio para la actualización de 630 CV es de 29.495 $, a los que hay que sumar 4.000 $ más si se desea la de 725 CV. Disponible sólo en EEUU, las preparaciones comenzarán el mes que viene.

Entre los días 13 y 17 de Mayo tiene lugar en Indianápolis (Indiana, EEUU) el Dana Mecum Original Spring Classic Auction, un evento en el que la casa Mecum Auctions subastará varias joyas del automovilismo. Uno de los modelos más esperados es el Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe CSX2601 de 1965, del que se espera que puede alcanzar la increíble cifra de 15 millones de dólares en subasta.

Este coche de carreras tiene el honor de ser el primer coche americano que vencía a Ferrari en una carrera europea. Sólo fueron construidas seis unidades destinadas a competir en el campeonato FIA GT. La unidad a subastar ha sido completamente restaurada después de que un millonario estadounidense se deshiciera de ella.

Dos prototipos de Mustang y el nuevo Shelby GT500 a subasta

A principios de Abril se celebra el evento anual de Barrett-Jackson en Palm Beach, Florida. En la edición de este año tendrá un gran protagonismo Ford, celebrando el 45º aniversario del nacimiento del primer Mustang de producción. Para ello, qué mejor forma de acercar al público tres unidades muy especiales.

Serán expuestos y posteriormente subastados dos prototipos de la generación S197 (la actual) que fueron presentados allá por 2003. Su aspecto es muy similar al de la versión final, lanzada en el 2005, pero con los correspondientes detalles que hacen que sean exclusivísimos. El tercero en discordia será el nuevo Shelby GT500, concretamente la primera unidad fabricada. El dinero recaudado con los tres coches será destinado a la Carroll Shelby Foundation y la Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Ford presenta el Shelby GT500

Ford ha lanzado el día de Año Nuevo las primeras imágenes y datos de su bestia más conocida, el Shelby GT 500. Monta un motor 5.4 V8 sobrealimentado de 540 CV y 691 Nm de par, con corte de inyección a 6.250 rpm. El motor construido en aluminio ayuda a una mejor refrigeración del mismo. El sistema de entrada de aire presenta ahora una forma cónica para facilitar la mayor entrada de aire y, de esta forma, aumentar la potencia y la eficiencia. El cambio es manual de seis marchas.

Las relaciones de las marchas han sido optimizadas para mejorar el consumo en ciudad y la respuesta desde parado. Una solución curiosa es el resonador que han situado entre el filtro de aire y el cuerpo del acelerador, que evita la aparición de ruidos indeseados en el habitáculo. Según los ingenieros de SVT, han trabajado arduamente este dispositivo para conseguir filtrar sólo los ruidos necesarios, es decir, dejar sentir al conductor que el supercharger está ahí pero sin excederse.

Las llantas son de 19 pulgadas con neumáticos Goodyear F1 SUpercar para la versión coupé, mientras que la Cabrio se tendrá que conformar con 18 pulgadas. En la nota de prensa también destacan el AdvanceTrac, un control de estabilidad con diversas opciones de comportamiento del coche o la aerodinámica optimizada.

Aunque Ford destaca eso, para ellos lo más importante se la reducción de consumo respecto al anterior GT500 (aumenta 2 mpg). Por último, nos hablan del interior del modelo, en el que la famosa cobra de Shelby está presente en diversos rincones. “The 2010 Shelby GT500 demonstrates Ford’s continuing commitment to high-performance vehicles,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “In addition to the numerous performance and refinement improvements inside and out, the 2010 Shelby GT500 is an estimated 2 miles per gallon more fuel efficient on the highway.”

“We’re proud of the many enhancements that were developed jointly by the Ford and Shelby Automobiles team last year that we’ve now incorporated into the new 2010 Shelby GT500,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby Automobiles. “Building on what we learned to create the Shelby GT500KR, this new car offers a great combination of power, handling and braking. It is truly a special car that is a great deal of fun to drive.”

Ford’s Special Vehicle Team used the gains made on the 40th anniversary edition Shelby GT500KR “King of the Road” Mustangs as the performance starting point and built from there. The design team, with a nod to the original Shelby Cobras from the 1960s, takes those design cues even further with nuanced improvements in both the coupe and convertible, each of which boasts a more-refined interior.

“Working together on the KR, the Ford and Shelby teams developed new systems to continually improve the iconic Mustang,” stated Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles. “Those lessons learned are incorporated into the 2010 Shelby GT500. This approach will help maintain Mustang’s leadership position at the front of the pack and make the ownership experience even more enjoyable.”

“The muscle car segment is becoming even more competitive,” said Jamal Hameedi, chief nameplate engineer for SVT. “We need to uphold the Mustang badge with honor, the Shelby badge with honor and most importantly the Ford badge with honor. The 2010 GT500 is the car that will do all of that.”

More horsepower, more refinement, more functionality
The combination of added horsepower, refinement and functionality makes the 2010 Shelby GT500 a unique high-performance car. The 2010 Shelby GT500 delivers more horsepower and more torque than the outgoing model, thanks in part to advancements pioneered on the GT500KR.

The 2010 Shelby GT500 is powered by a supercharged and intercooled 5.4-liter dual overhead cam V-8 engine expected to produce 540 horsepower and 510 foot-pounds of torque. The redline is 6,250 rpm. The car’s aluminum power dome hood not only adds to the Shelby’s appearance, it helps cool the engine through a hood extractor.

The Shelby’s open-element air induction system features a conical air filter instead of a flat-panel closed system to reduce air restriction. This approach allows more air to be pumped through the engine, producing more power and increasing the engine’s efficiency.

A cold-air intake feeds the coolest air possible directly into the air box, helping further increase horsepower. The intake necessitated moving the Cobra snake badge to the other side of the grille to enable maximum airflow.

The twin-disc clutch on the six-speed manual transmission has been significantly upgraded, improving drivability and NVH. The discs on the 2010 Shelby GT500 are larger – 250 mm in diameter compared with 215 mm in diameter on the outgoing model – and made of copper and fiberglass to make them more robust.

A unique component of the twin-disc system is the control of the intermediate disc. Rather than floating, it instead has six straps that control the engagement of the clutch, improving drivability.

The 2010 Shelby GT500 offers customers improved straight-line acceleration, plus fuel savings when cruising on the highway in the top gears. Gears 1-4 remain the same, but fifth gear changes from .80 to .74 while sixth gear goes from .63 to .50, meaning that the 2010 Shelby GT500 will turn lower engine RPMs in those gears and deliver improved fuel efficiency. The new final drive ratio, from 3.31 to 3.55, enables the improved acceleration in lower gears while complementing the revised fifth and sixth gear ratios.

The Shelby’s distinct sounds will be apparent as always, though with new refinements, thanks to the work of the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) team. A patented resonator placed between the air filter and engine throttle body helps keep unwanted noise in check.

“You still hear the supercharger but not so that it’s intrusive,” said Kerry Baldori, chief functional engineer for SVT. “It’s the same with the exhaust. You want people to know you’re driving something special, but you don’t want an exhaust note that overpowers the whole interior.

“We spent a lot of time getting the right sound quality out of the exhaust so you get that nice, crisp Shelby sound outside and a pleasant sound inside the cabin. It’s a nice balance; one isn’t overpowering the other.”

Driving dynamics also are improved, thanks to SVT’s signature chassis tuning as well as new 19-inch Goodyear F1 Supercar tires and forged aluminum wheels on the 2010 Shelby GT500 coupe and 18s on the convertible.

Spring and dampers have been optimized for better roll control, giving customers more confidence when braking, accelerating or turning. The new chassis tuning takes its philosophy from the KR program, with a greater emphasis placed on primary body control.

The team also stiffened the steering shaft.

“All our changes were about making the car to respond as fast and as predictable as possible,” Hameedi said. “The 2010 Shelby GT500 conveys an athletic, confident feel. The shifter, clutch pedal, brake-pedal efforts and overall steering efforts are easier now. We wanted to make sure we had a nice, crisp short-throw shifter that was easy to go from gear to gear.”

The Goodyear F1 Supercar 19-inch tires have been upgraded, too. SVT members developed a “recipe” for the attributes and characteristics they wanted in the tire, which Goodyear’s team of engineers, designers and manufacturers brought to life. The result is better grip, better handling and better NVH properties, leading to a better customer experience.

The wheels themselves complement the high-performance nature of the 2010 Shelby GT500. The 19-inch wheels are forged aluminum wheels milled on both sides. The extra machining process creates “blade” spokes with very thin, yet strong, cross-sections. The spokes have a specific curve from the rim to the hub, not only for strength, but also to accentuate the offset and width of the tires.

The 2010 Shelby GT500 features AdvanceTrac, Ford’s stability control system with several options for performance. The default “on” mode accommodates every-day driving, and a Sport mode delivers for those wanting to put the Shelby GT500 through its paces on the track. The system also can be turned completely off, although the anti-lock brake system and other active safety systems remain in place. Standard safety equipment includes: dual stage front air bags, side-impact air bags and Ford’s Personal Safety System.

Numerous aerodynamic upgrades, including a redesigned splitter, were made to the front end of the 2010 Shelby GT500.

“We worked hard to get as much downforce with as little drag as possible,” Baldori said. “We worked to seal off the air that comes in the front so it can’t go underneath the car. We spent a lot time sealing components such as the radiator and intercoolor to get rid of all the leak paths.

“The result of this evolution of aerodynamics is we’ve increased downforce, reduced drag and improved the overall efficiency of the 2010 Shelby GT500.”

Directing the air so it’s used most efficiently was a painstaking process that ultimately will be rewarding to customers. The design of the front fascia and the car’s “flush” hood helps focus air flow. The top grille focuses air into the radiator, with a rubber flap inside the engine compartment helping to seal the system. The lower grille helps cool the intercooler. SVT engineers also went as far to block off specific diamonds in the front of the 2010 Shelby GT500’s distinctive grille to help maintain the correct cooling and aerodynamic balance.

A meaner, reskinned snake ready to take to the streets
The 2010 Shelby GT500 is the most-robust design and most-distinctive model of the new 2010 Mustang lineup. “The design we chose was a ‘flush’ hood where the fascia defines the entire front of the vehicle,” Hameedi said. “That’s very hard to execute from an engineering standpoint, but it really sets the Shelby off as very, very different from the base Mustang.”

“This epitomizes the ultimate Mustang,” added George Saridakis, Exterior Design manager of the Mustang and Shelby GT500. “It’s all about power and expressing power.”

Saridakis said his team took a cue from the Shelby AC Cobra 427 with respect to the front grilles, which are gaping and appear ready to swallow the road.

Another obvious difference for the Shelby is the addition of racing stripes, which also will now be available on the convertible. “Racing stripes made their mark on 1960s-era Ford performance vehicles,” Hameedi notes. “That’s something we feel is a key part of the Shelby performance DNA – maybe more so than some of our competition.”

Rounding out the Shelby’s exterior modifications are the unique signature coiled Cobra badges on the front grille and front fenders, a more aggressive front splitter and lower-drag rear spoiler, which added to improved aerodynamic features, round out the exterior modifications. “We wanted the spoiler raked back aggressively to minimize drag, but we also have an integrated Gurney Flap that provides the downforce,” Saridakis said.

What’s inside counts with the 2010 Shelby GT500
The base 2010 Mustang received a powerful new interior design. For the GT500, the interior design team members challenged themselves to raise the bar even higher to create the ultimate Shelby Mustang interior.

Using genuine materials such as real leather in all seats, real aluminum on the instrument panel and Alcantara inserts on the seats and steering wheel gave the appearance a precisely crafted, jewel-like yet functional feel. “You’ll definitely know you’re in a Shelby,” said Douglas Gaffka, Chief Designer, Shelby GT500.

The genuine aluminum finish panels have a unique-to-GT500 three-dimensional dimpled texture pattern inspired by racing clutch plates, braided hoses and cross-drilled racing brake rotors. The pattern has been painstakingly tuned to compensate for the compound curvature of the instrument panels. In addition, the “GT500” logo has been discretely engraved into the aluminum in front of the passenger as a nod to classic Shelby Mustangs of the 1960s.

This unique aluminum finish panel is fully encapsulated by an exquisite soft seamless TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin) instrument panel with a shape that resonates with Mustang’s powerful heritage. The center stack flows into the console and features a sub-flush shifter trim ring, flush cup holder door and lockable console stowage featuring the word “SHELBY” engraved in its Satin Liquid Chrome release button.

All 2010 Mustangs and Shelbys feature bright 360-degree rings surrounding the gauge cluster, uninterrupted by the steering column. These rings will come in chrome for the Mustang and a Satin Liquid Chrome finish for the GT500. This finish is featured throughout the interior. An intricate cobra is etched into the center of the aluminum steering wheel badge. The Shelby Cobra appears at startup on the navigation screen, and the familiar red “SVT” logo utilizes new ambient lighting to illuminate the door scuffplate.

“When customers drive this car, they’re not only going to be impressed by the performance and the Shelby heritage, but they’re going to see all these carefully designed details and know they’ve bought a well-crafted car,” Saridakis said.

Even the classic white shift knob – an icon of Shelby Mustang DNA from years past – received special attention. First, it had to be the traditional white. It also had to be specific to the Shelby. The answer was to combine the racing-stripes theme with the traditional “H” pattern found on shifters to create a one-of-a-kind knob. Like the exterior, the racing stripes wrap from end to end, encircling the knob.

The 2010 Shelby GT500 will be in dealer showrooms in spring. The cars will be built at the Auto Alliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Mich.

The 2010 Ford Shelby GT 500 Mustang was revealed January 1st of 2009 and will be one of Ford’s center pieces at the 2009 North American International Auto Show when it opens to the press in Detroit on January 11, 2009. Chief Designer, Doug Gaffka, says it was a great challenge to top a 45-year legacy, but he thinks the 2010 Mustang has surpassed them all.

“I think this car is better than the last one, I think it’s aggressive more modern and just a lot more muscle in this body than the last.”
According to Gaffka, Carroll Shelby was personally involved in the design and development of this vehicle to make sure the Special Vehicle Team (SVT) built a car that would live up to the Shelby reputation.

“First of all when you do a Mustang you don’t want to disappoint the customer, that’s the most important and then its taking the car to another step of modernality and I really want to get off the heritage approach totally and really do a more modern interpretation of where the Mustang is going.”
And where would that be?

“I think it’s going in a direction we have right now a lot more body form, lot more muscularity and lot more attention to surfaces and I think that sends it to a more modern approach than today’s which is a lot more liner and extruded.”
Both Gaffka and his design team wanted to make a statement with the 2010 Mustang.

“Well the front end when you see it come up from behind you, you want to have this feeling you better get out of the way cause it’s going to go past you one way or the other and that was kind of our goal.” :
As stylish and aggressive the exterior is on the 2010 Mustang, Gaffka says the interior is really the highpoint of the car, in a lot of ways.

“Because we’ve taken what was the previous interior which was very good and upgraded everything. The quality is better, the fit and finish is exquisite, the choice of materials is even better. Use of more aluminum, use of more leather and most importantly we have a soft Instrument Panel”
As Chief Designer, Gaffka says he worked in concert with Carroll Shelby to be sure it met with his expectations and that they never lost the definitive lines that make a Mustang… a Mustang.

“I think the front is very Mustang with the corral shaped grill and the placement of the headlamps and the aggressiveness of the hood, but the tail lamps, in particular, the three-bar tail lamps are very Mustang. It’ll be a great feature, because the way they’ve been designed this year, from a hundred yards at night when they’re lit, you’ll know it’s a Mustang, they’ll be no mistaking it”
The 2010 Shelby GT 500 was engineered by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in cooperation with Shelby Automotive. The car will be built in Flat Rock, Michigan and will be available in dealerships spring of 2009. Gaffka’s parting words… “this Mustang is Fast, fun and affordable.”

“We worked with Carroll on this car very closely and everything we did on this was approved by him and I think this is the most powerful, coolest Mustang ever done.”
Volumes are still being finalized, but each Shelby Certified Dealer will receive one GT 500. The rest of the cars will be allocated based on the Shelby dealers’ overall Mustang sales.
